Timothy Casserly

After 37 years of growing a successful law firm dedicated to Elder Law, estate planning, and financial planning, Tim Casserly has wound down the firm and joined Herzog Law Firm to continue servicing his clients with a like-minded team of attorneys and staff. In addition to his law degree, Tim is also a Certified Financial Planner and co-founder of Arista Wealth Advisors, LTD, a registered investment advisory firm that merged into Graypoint LLC in 2022, which has since merged with Cerity Partners.
Tim has lectured nationally to professionals, corporations, and the public on financial and estate planning topics, including asset protection and long-term care planning. He has been quoted on these issues in The New York Times, Money Magazine, and other national publications. He has also authored many articles on these topics for professional journals and periodicals and co-authored Boomer Basics: Everything You Need to Know About the Issues Facing You, Your Children, and Your Parents, a planning guide for consumers published by McGraw Hill.
Tim was named a Super Lawyer from 2009 through 2026 and was selected for inclusion on the New York Super Lawyers – Upstate Edition list, as well as the Top 25 Attorneys in Hudson Valley Magazine’s Super Lawyer section. He has also earned the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating, reflecting peer recognition at the highest level of professional excellence.
Tim has been an active participant in the New York State Bar Association and is a past Chair of the Elder Law Section. He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association and a past Chair of its Northeastern New York Chapter. He has been recognized by both organizations with awards for his achievements.
Tim received his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School of Union University in Albany, New York, and his Bachelor of Arts from Boston College. He is a Fellow of the New York State Bar Association and is admitted to the New York State Bar.
Since 2014, Tim has served on the Board of Directors of Community Maternity Services, an agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. He also serves on the Board of the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York Chapter. In the past, Tim has served on several nonprofit boards, including Medicus Christi, Ltd., an organization established to bring much-needed medical care to impoverished and underserved communities in the developing world.
